government and leadership
The city of Canfield lies on the outskirts of the much larger city, Youngstown. Being that it is not a very large area, its government offers the population only a small amount of community services. These services, which are available to the public, are funded by a small city income tax of 1%. The city has a municipality form of government and is run by city officials, the city council, employees, and volunteers.

Community Planning
The leaders of Canfield take pride in their positions as the community leaders. Constant overview of the community and the community's well being is a top priority for the leaders. There are many plans for the community of Canfield that occupy the time of the government leaders. First, the East Main Project has commenced which includes the widening of SR 46 & 62. The project also includes curbing , storm drainage and street lighting. The project construction cost is $ 850,000 of which 69 % was funded with a Grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission. Also Paving has commenced along US224 and the Village Green. The project construction cost was $ 1.1 million paid for 100 % by grants from the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Eastgate Council of Government.
Another community project yet to start is the Fairground Blvd. Hood Dr. Sidewalk Project (to be awarded in September 2012). The project would place a sidewalk on the busy street and give citizens a place to walk, run, or ride their bike away from the hazards of the road while looking cosmetically appealing to the community.
